You know it's springtime when your post is on the second page when you return from work!

Not sure I can train the plants up to the shed roof.  They'll be starting on the shady side of the shed, so will take some time to reach the sun.

I'll have to start them on the roof, so should I grow them in a deep pot or a shallow wide pot?

my pumpkins did well in about 6 inces of soil until rock last year, so i guess that the roots are as wide ranging as the stem!

Pumpkins need a lot of soil: I reckon on a good 4' each way in the ground, and they're deep rooting too so I guess you'd need at least a cubic metre of soil up there.  That's going to weigh a ton or more (once your soil is well wetted).  Are you *sure* your shed roof will bear it?

No I'm not sure, but I'll have time to brace it over the summer.

Three sides are breeze blocks, and there's good posts next to the double doors, so it's only the roof that needs a bit more support.
