Tomatoes - your favourites?
« on: March 31, 2009, 19:51 »
I find I'm growing 13 varieties of toms this year  (serious seed mania). Last year on the lottie, Gardener's Delight and Tigerella were really good, despite the weather.
This year's roll call is: Black Cherry, Black Russian, Tigerella, Rosada, G's Delight, Millefleur, Sungold, Suncherry, Bicolour, Amish Paste, Golden Sweet, San Marzano, Costolutto...yep, a tom addict.
What are your favourites and what's done well for you over the past couple of years?

I've never tried Cristal!  We just love tomatoes.  I usually grow 17-20 varieties, but whatever I can save or swap usually, or occasionally get a packet as a pressy!  A couple of years ago, I had 200 tomato plants growing in my greenhouses and polytunnels, and as well as eating the toms non stop, I chopped and froze over 80 lbs for sauces and soups over the winter, then after a few months realised our big freezer had packed up in the garage!!!  Lost the lot!!!!   :( :(

you must be just about self sufficient, but it sounds like you need one of THESE you can also get remote alarms if you are not always in your garage.
