Thought my toms were leggy but
« on: March 19, 2009, 13:11 »
I thought my toms were leggy but watching this vid from gardeners world they are no where near as leggy looking as his are, the peppers he showed were much leggier looking than mine a well.  Puts a whole new perspective on leggy plants for me.

Left his pricking out rather late i think
I pot mine on as soon as they're up...........the longer you leave them to grow together
the leggier they get.
Bet his got broken roots as well :(
Surprised they actually videod it like that

I have just potted my first tomato seedlings on and set them ½" deeper than they were, as per the recommendations of someone here (I can't remember who, sadly). I have to say, I'm chuffed to bits with them so far!  :)

I'm using those plastic bag pots an' all good aren't they.  They're looking good.  I alsways think Toms aren't that much of a problem if they shoot up cos as you say you can just bury deeper.  Roots come from the hairy stem.

This is the first time I've used polybags and I think they're great... and price wise you just can't beat them!

It was a post about tomatoes and their ability to grow adventitious roots that prompted me to try deliberately potting on my tomatoes deeper this year. I just wish I could remember which thread it was posted in.  :(

I often let my seedlings get leggy as I get so busy that I don't have time to get to them before they've gone mad.  I then bury them up to their necks in fresh compost and hope for the best. Just done it with cues and chillies and fingers crossed they seem fine now, as do the aubs. I'd try it with anything  :)  Not started toms yet
