Hi, this year I started on a new allotment and to combat the almost pure clay I created raised beds. I've never grown using these before so I'm not sure if my problem is to do with them or with the rubbish summer! Basically things like beetroot, carrots, celeriac, spuds all put on lots of top growth but never really bulked up.

Could be the weather most of my OH beetroot never made much ended up as guinea pig food  :roll:
What did you fill your beds with ?

A mix of the local soil (or rather clay!) and something called Denise's Delight which is a mix of fen soil and garden compost.

Could be too much Nitrogen.............also fen soil might be acidic......
