 that's what i thought but it's made me feel better by doing something.. it has raising agent, so maybe it'll make them have tummy ache and they'll leave of their own accord!

yeah.. right!   I do feel determined to get rid though so that's good.. was feeling girlie about them this morning.. but not anymore.. horse yard talk reminded me of killing them! ;) theres a warrior in me somewhere.. she's just pretending to be a princess mostly these days!  :tongue2:

hi, when we had a few rats within our chicken area last year my hubby put rat traps into small concrete pipes (bid enough for trap to go off in. trap pushed into middle of pipe) with a small metal/woden bar pushed down the middle of both entrances (gap then small enough to allow rat in, but not big enough for chicken to get into or cat etc.) he had to leave them there for a while as rats are cautious of new things :) ,  this worked for us and we have since always left them there incase we have any more unwelcome visitor! :o

you could try and get these for the long term :)  Better than giving them ingred. for cake making

Thanks Clare. :) only thing with that.. is freeing the body!  :? i'm a city kid born n' bred.. don't mind shovelling a dead rat or mouse into a bin but not actually pulling back a trap that's squished one..

I do plan from now on though to keep bait out perm - just safely - we have a bin store and a compost bin (next to each other) so should have probably done this, especially as we back onto fields. :?

hi, we can't use poison here, we have 3 cats and they catch mice and leave them outside, were our ducks just eat them up :o  :o (strange ducks), so we would probably have dead cats as well as dead ducks. I have never seen our chickens eat a dead mouse thou :)  :)

Good! lol only risk is my dogs is suppose, as i have a JR, but they are not 'real' terriers in that sense.. will have to read up and see if it affects animals that eat the mice/rats whatever.. lol

Baking soda is the ingredient given in the recipe on the forums :)

Just caught cat with a mouse in the dining room. She had her paw on its tail just like Tom and Jerry.

OH grabbed her. The mouse hid behind a table leg so I picked it up by the tail and put it next door.
It'll have plenty of undergrowth to hide in there and hopefully won't come back into our garden while the cat's about.

Good luck gettig rid of yours. Rats are definitely bad news.

lol at the tom n' jerry act! :)

Relieved the baking soda may help.. i tested a bit this morning by adding water and it expanded massively!!

So.. put more out today - so chooks couldn't get to it, and again on a ice-cream lid tonight.. only caught sight of 1 adult and 1 baby today.. so that's an improvement - yesterday they were in and out like yo-yo's and all 4 out together a lot of the time, so hoping i've halved them.. and maybe more come morning. :)
