Defiately please do not use carpet gripper - that's just plain cruel and nasty.

If you don't want to bother with netting, you could try cutting up some lemons or oranges and dotting them around your veg, cats aren't keen on citrus smell. You can use ones that have been reduced in supermarkets and then pop them in the composter when they're too manky and need replacing.

half filled clear bottles of water are supposed to work

 :?:  :?:

How, exactly?

I was told to half fill clear bottles with water, and lay them on their side around the area you want to protect....As I said. I`ve never tried it, so not sure if it works, and looking at some other posts , it seems it doesnt.

Be careful if you're laying the netting horizontally.

I was putting some pea netting up at the weekend, and one of the local cats walked over the stuff which was waiting to be dealt with.  It got caught, panicked, and struggled - getting more tangled in the process.  Fortunately it did manage to untangle itself, but it would have been an awful time getting it out otherwise.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
