What's grown & what's a moan.

Top 3
Potatoes - even though we didn't really prepare the soil properly, we have heaps of them and haven't seen a supermarket spud in the house since mid-June.
Carrots - when grown in rootrainers but they got a little forked and twisty but were otherwise chubby. They were started later than the few carrots that got direct sown and survived  and they grew bigger and more quickly than those pipsqueaks.
Beetroot - Ashamed to say I bought these in modules at a garden centre but I ended up with about 3times the number of modules because I separated them all out and they survived that quite happily

Bottom 3
Peas - peamoth unless I ate the pods of the purplepoddedpeas before they did.
Purple Climbing Beans - Hardly grew or produced but that was probably down to lack of proper cultivation of soil.
Turnips/Daikon earlier in the year - fleabeetles. I thought the turnips had all been killed off until I accidently found a little cluster of them. Daikon that I've planted much, much later in the year is absolutely thriving now that I've learned it's a winter radish
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

Top three

New Tats - great crop
Strawberries - brilliant this year
Onions - (from sets) good crop

Bottom three
Brassicas - didn't plant them deep enough on transplanting and got hammered by wind/rain and were ruined. Cabbage whites got loads too.
Apples - didn't spray - codling moth had a field day
Raspberries - okay but not as good as last year - probably needed more watering

   Aubergines

   Parsnips,still growing

broard beans, first year I`ve managed to pick enough for a meal.

   Bottom 3

Chillis/peppers,lousey germination meant that I didn`t get many going so the crop is much smaller than usual

carrots, all razed to the ground by slugs when I was away for a weekend, later sowing not so big and some only just cropping now so it is me vs slugs again.

Outdoor cucumber,1st go at these,4 plants produced 3 mini cucumbers, the plants never seemed to really get going or flower much,no idea what I did wrong.

An odd year most crops loved the hot weather but others not despite frequent watering, others did ok but were smaller than usual pots and onions especially.

considering I only planted 10 plants in total I did ummmmmm
very poorly.  the only good crop I had was one bush of toms.
The rhubarb died
cape gooseberry - Planted far too late and only got 2 edible fruits
My pepper was eaten by the dreaded slugs
and my strawberries was the worst crop I have ever had.
But now I have ny lottie hopefully I will have a better next year.

Top three for me have to be

Cucumbers
Sweetcorn
Broadbeans

Bottom Three

Peas
Tomatos
Carrot

It was all edible and far tastier than the shop bought produce!
Enjoying the traditional ways and values of life.
