Hi, I am new here and would like to start growing some fruit and veg this summer.

My backyard has no grass and its slabbed over. I was thinking about getting some growing bags and big plant pots.

My question is can Pattypans, Okra, sweet peppers and watermelons (10-15lb) be grown in the UK with the not very nice weather and all?

Pattypan squash will grow outside, sweetpeppers and watermelon ,we only manage (that I know of) to grow small ones, in the greenhouse.

There has been discussion lately about whether it's worth trying okra or not, it doesn't seem reliable in our climate

You have chosen some of the most difficult crops to grow outdoors in the UK (with the possible exception of pattypans!)

If you are serious about wanting to have a go growing your own veg and fruit do some research first (this site is a good place to begin!) and start with things which are easy to grow, otherwise you will become quickly disheartened and on your way back to the supermarket!
