Starting raised beds near Cherry Tree
« on: April 30, 2020, 17:31 »
Hi there. We are in the process of turning part of our garden into a veg patch. There is a cherry tree right in the middle of the area, so we thought it we use approx. 4" deep raised beds, no closer than 30cm from the canopy of the tree then veg shouldn't have to compete too much for nutrients? I've attached a photo. Any advice welcome. Thanks, Jack

Welcome to the forum :)
When I did that in my garden the tree sent up new roots into the beds - so you may have to water and feed the beds more than you think you should, just keep an eye on things growing there.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply  :)

Great, don't mind a bit of extra work as long as it's not all in vain! I have some of last years compost left so will give the bed a good feed initially and then top up every autumn.
