Living in Scotland I usually try and get my garlic in by end of October to give them time to root before the perma frost kicks in.  I haven't even prepared my bed yet.  Any Scottish / North England growers put theirs in this late?  Or should I be thinking about potting them first?

Paranoid they are going to rot again this year.  Had 10 years of success until this year when 100% failed.  Blaming wet weather or the fact this was the first time I didn't buy new seed.

I dug a smallish patch today before rain set in. Behind because of health reasons. Planted two trays cloves 4x6 and will leave in greenhouse till well rooted.

I often pot and plant out in early spring, and find it works just as well as early winter planting.

Because of the wet (the allotment is by a stream and first to go under snow) I put mine in little pots in the cold frame, ideally before Christmas but haven't done it yet.  They seem to get going nicely there and then plant them out when the ground starts to dry out in March.
