My one muscat de provence has a split in it today, possibly from the biblical rain last night.

It's about 10cm long and 2-3mm deep. Would you advise cutting it or leaving it to see if it scabs over? The plant is starting to go a bit mildewy so I guess it's not far off being done.

Not having grown these before, I'm not quite sure what to do.

I would take it home and use it. It may cure for a short while if not entirely ready, but a split in the skin will destroy it eventually - the skin, plus the stem stop all bacteria getting in. It's defences are down now m'dear

 :ohmy:you got biblical rain! we got nuffin here, and you're only a half hour away    shame about the squaah, a curry will soon sort that problem out

My water butt went from nearly empty to full, so about 200L fell off the shed roof in a couple of hours....

Thanks for the advice. Was hoping to save the seeds from this, so maybe it's lucky I have a few spare seeds from the packet. Will bring it home and see how long I can keep it for - and do a bit more googling on how early squash seeds are ready for saving.
