Tomatoes on holiday...
« on: May 16, 2013, 21:05 »
We're in the middle of demolishing our faifhfull old (sob) cedar greenhouse, and preparing some new green aluminium quarters for everything fragile.

Our twelve 'Sungold' toms are well away, and about 10" high, which has been worrying me for the last few days, as the other outdoor futures, 'Gardeners Delight', and 'Black Krim', have been hardening off in different quarters under a big plastic cover outside and are about 6" high, and looking so fine and dandy...

So Mrs G decided to give the Sungold a day out; a sort of treat for being so good at growing in a rather indifferent environment (conservatory). She plonked them on the steps outside for about five hours in the sun, and they've come back in, clutching postcards, laughing inanely, smelling of beer and fish and chips, and generally looking pretty damn sprightly and very, very green, after all this time in limbo!

So it's not only 'uming bings' who need a day out; think toms...

Just hope they have come back from holiday without having caught some nasty infectious rash.  :D
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

They're tucked up tight in their boxes, Gremlin!

Seriously, they seemed so much greener and had some muscle where before they were really spindly, and in need of a Charles Atlas course!

Of course, if 'Tomato Itch' starts tomorrow, we'll know where they've been..;0)
