Aaaaargh, snow! Advice please
« on: March 11, 2013, 16:36 »
Hi,

Please can I have some advice from you experienced veg growers.
I planted my shallots and garlic 2 weeks ago and covered them with fleece the last couple of nights with the cold forecast. Is there anything else I can do to protect them during this cold snap?

Any advice welcome.

If they have been out a couple of weeks they will be fine. Was going to put ours out on the weekend but the forecast was for lots of frost this week which I find lifts the sets so I'll wait a while.

The frost does them good as it's required to make them split into individual cloves

Aha, does that mean I should remove the fleece then?

If anything, I depend on a good cold winter with lots of snow to get my garlic going.

Hi,

I've got some planted and some in the coldframe (waiting for the allotment to be ready) - should I put them all into the garden or is it too late now?

Thanks,

Caroline

I disagree - they should have been planted in the soil!  ::)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
