savoy cabbage

are their different types of savoy....i'm pretty new to gardening.....but the stuff i used to buy had very dark crinckly leaves....the stuff i grew last year was crinklly but a light greeen/yellow colour and not what i expected

anyone know what seed type i'm looking for..cheers

Yes there are different varieties of Savoy.  You might have grown Savoy King last year as that has light green leaves.

I grew 'Tarvoy'...T&M...last year...nice tight crinkly heads of good size.......the only problem we had was earthworms getting right into the heart....not great when slicing it up in the kitchen :tongue2:

They are mostly a winter cabbage but if you choose your variety carefully you can pick them from september to march.

also can i ask if anyone has found that spraying watered down washing up liquid on cabbages once a week keeps butterflys and catterpillers away

Only netting less than 7mm will prevent cabbage whites.  Failing that you will have to keep checking and removing the eggs before they hatch.

most things that come straight from the garden will have some sort of creepy crawly on them...................a quick inspection and wash will do the trick..........plus the fact i love my potatoe,savoy,bacon and beans(cooked in some of the bacon fat)...means i'll be growing again lol

Yes,I'm not bothered by most things...but there were LOADS of little red worms right through the head.....slicing up the cabbage was absolute carnage......I drew the line I'm afraid.

i had the little red worms...but they were just at the bottom..........i think i may have been put off if the heart was riddled with them tho!!

I grow Piacenza savoy cabbage; it was quite dark and crinkly, and definitely delicious. It is a winter variety.
