As I am fairly new to hen keeping (since April 2010) this is the latest worry... My girls are in a safe and secure enclosure therefore I am not currently closing pop-hole at night, they in turn are choosing not to go in to roost, rather, they are overnighting on an outside raised verandah.  The question is,  as the verandah is made up of decking slats they are not gripping onto a properly formed roosting bar, IS THIS BAD FOR THEM???  (Sounds silly now but I can't help worrying!) In anticipation of a answer, thank you, L'eggy girls. 
P.S. The roost in free of red mite.

Check their home for red mite just in case that is putting them off of going in.

please try to provide something for them to roost on, if they decide to lie down instead of standing they could end up with a bacterial infection in their eyes either from something off the ground or their pooh- 2 of mine have and are now on a course of anti bacterial and cortisone drops in their eyes.
Really she you make them go into their coup at night so like Aunty said check for red mite just in case.
