Spuds in bags!

Well being my first year and not having much room in my garden i decided to grow my FE spuds in those potato bags you can get from garden centres but how many seed spuds do i put in them!!! ::)

I am also gona gry own bags, I did a search here last night 'potatoes in bags' lotsa info already covered. I'd say 2-3 seeds. Im using normal black dust bin bags,im gonut 2 in each.good luck

i have got some potato kits and in the bags i will put 3 spuds in each i also put one in flower buckets...  :)
when im with my 9yr old she's the sensible one

I've still got some huge plastic containers I used for watering the horse, usually use 5 seeds but probably could put less in, probably 3. Done the same in old bins in the past. You don't get that many but better than nothing and they taste wonderful!

I would recommend 2-3 potatoes otherwise they just fight for space and nutrients in the bag.

I used old compost bags last year and put 2/3, in each bag.  It was very successful so I will do the same again.   I help with my son's allotment but it was nice to have ready supplies in my own garden.

I did this last year - put 2/3 in any large tub I could find.  Worked incredibly well.  Had fresh 1st and 2nd earlies right through to late Sept (just cut off the foliage once it begins to die and stop watering - since they are in bags, no nasties can get to them!)

One word of advice - you need to water... a lot (hose alert)

hi guys , if you can get them try flower buckets from the supermarkets or flower shops they throw them away , i put my first earlies and some salad spuds in them this is my third year with them, i put 3 in each , some already up in cold greenhouse. the remaining spuds i put in the lottie over the next month. :D

Matty42,are those flower pots wide/deep enuff? ones im thinking are about 1'wide maybe 2' deep?

I love the flower buckets for spuds and used them last year.  I really like them because they produce just enough for a family meal so you can tip a bucket when you need them really!

hi guys , the flower buckets are the black display ones where i get mine from they have 3 types i go for the biggest .also if you have too many earlie spuds put some in the fridge then put them in a bucket in late july ish for a december harvest i keep them in the cold greenhouse with a fleece over. :happy:
