I mixed new compost, top soil and fbb for the first 4" in the bags then I'll keep earthing with compost/topsoil  with a light sprinkle. I don't want to use my manure...it's mushroom compost which is a bit limey and can cause scab?
I also use water-in tomato fertiliser or seaweed when they're leafing.

Last year was our first with potatos, we did them in bags and I just used tomato feed every now and again when I remembered ::) But they grew brilliantly, they are one of my few successes from last year, I pretty much ignored them  :D and we had about a carrier bags full from each bag
New to gardening & growing my own, its a very steep learning curve!
