I have a knife hanging on a nail at my compost heap that is made of wooden pallets. Any veg I take home is topped, tailed and cleaned etc. and all cut offs are added to the compost heap. Then given a quick wash on the way out at the water butt.

You have a knife made of wooden pallets? Cor. ::)

we have gone really posh   :D and put an old Belfast sink up on the plot with a waste pipe into water but and an old tap fixed to the hose -

now that's wot I call proper washing veggies  ;)

I try to wash and prep the veg as much as possible at the plot, but by that time I usually have two bored, tired under-5's wanting to go home, so luckily I am able to use my utility room which was originally the outside loo and coal hole but was converted a few years ago.

I even installed a spray style tap to make the job easier.

I have a trap style plug which drains the bigger bits and tap this straight into the compost bin to go back to the plot again.

Last 'summer' I didn't have to dig up the veggies, I just stirred the slurry and pulled, then I topped tailed at the compost heap and left the soil to drain off for a bit!  This year I dig, shake off the soil, then top and tail, whilst I water.  I think I prefer  ::) ;)...THIS YEAR!

I fill a bucket at the tap & wash & top & tail as much as I can then tip all the waste on to the compost bin or the water onto the manure heap. Well that's the theory :D
