when to pick iceberg.
« on: May 24, 2011, 20:10 »
I know its a bit of a silly question but when should you pick iceberg? Should you wait and see if they get to the same size as a shop bought one and risk it bolting or pick it a bit smaller?

Cheers

Pick it as soon as you like if it's big enough for a salad. :)
Cheese makes everything better.

Faced with a choice between picking small or buying one - there's no contest!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I do that to my chard spinach etc, without losing the plants, may get seeds in the end

Me too. To be honest, i do this with most of my salad leaves, cos lettuce is another good one where I pick what I want. Can't compare to shop bought!

If you have several icebergs pick a few leaves, then cut some immature heads, then cut them mature, then make the best of them as they go to seed.

If you wait for mature heads they will go to seed before you know it and some will be wasted.
