Potting on chillies

Hi,
My little basil & chillie plants are ready for potting on from the 3inch pots they are in now, but are suffering for not having a south facing window to sit on during the day so have gone a bit legy, (I don't have a greenhouse). Can I pot them on into the bottom of a pot like I do with tomatoes, burying a bit of the stems to recover them a bit?

I have sown more basil, but not chillies as I believe they need a long growing season and I am too late to sow more. What should I do folks?

Don't know about the Basil, I always sow those in a 10 inch pot and thin as required. With the Chillies I always pot on upto the first seed leaves (as do others on this site) and have no problems.

Is it too late to plant to sow more chillies ? Depends on the variety, some need a longer growing season others shorter !

You could sow some, keep them in a 3 inch pot overwinter them and so have a head start next year

I'm with galen on this one i always plant deep anyway so it will be fine, as for re-sowing why not the seasons seem to be running later these days so i would go for it. good luck ST
