Eaten french beans!!!
« on: June 03, 2006, 16:24 »
Hello everyone,  I am an allotment virgin and need some help with my french beans which have been eaten by somebody or something.  Is it likely to be slugs?  There is no slug trail so i am not sure.  A tried to protect the whole ones with plastic walls around them but the little bliters got through.  Any help would be muchly appreciated.

It probably is slugs. I've used non-toxic slug pellets and plastic bottles (The bottles until they get too big) That seems to be partially effective although I've lost some and others look a bit ragged. They come up quickly now, so just sow a few more in pots and let them get a bit bigger before planting out.
(Slugs have eaten half my squash plants too - good job I planted too many seeds.)
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Maccs not really different to here for weather so I think you have a combination problem - been too cold for French beans but warm enough for slugs,
My suggestion - sow some more and use lots of safe slug pellets.
