If you havn't got one of these and you are not organic use slug pellets.

Some slugs actually eat other slugs and some do no harm. The bad ones are the little grey jobs

I would have to be really desperate and have tried everything else (sand, grit, crushed shells/egg shells, beer traps, grapefruit shells, cooper tape/wire, sacrificial plants, bran, and manually killing as many bad ones as I could find) to no avail to ever be induced to use slug pellets, as they are indiscriminate and I don't believe the producers when they say they are harmless to wildlife.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Well off to B&Q I went after work on Tuesday night - purchased some bug spray and slug pellets.  Straight up to my lottie (didnot want to chance another night) Did what it said on the tin(s).  Back up the lottie again tonight - Them slugs been having a right feast!!! What more can I do (apart for sitting there all night with a big gun!!) :(

Have you tried beer traps ??  bung some beer in an old bean tin or similar an inch or two will do. You sink this into the ground so there's about 1cm lip showing put 3-4 stones around it so they are higher than the lip and put a piece of wood or slate etc over the top. This keeps the rain out but lets the slugs in  under the lid.

I read that if you cut the top and bottom off big pop bottles (2lt) and put these around the plant they help to stop the slugs, I can't help thinking that they will only climb over the top though. I'm going to try it and probably use eggshells/sand as well, the egg shells have been going into the compost bin so far so I will keep them separate from now on.
