Black spots on broad beans
« on: June 14, 2007, 18:40 »
I've been given some more broad bean plants and a couple of days ago I noticed what looked like the odd black fly so I sprayed with soapy water.
Now there are black marks on some of the top leaves is this due to the soapy water or some thing else.

I grew some early broad beans and didn't get blackfly so I'm a bit unsure if the plants are still Ok.
Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

might be chocolate spot fungus.  Destroy plants if you can make a positive ID (Doc Hessayon)

I've looked up images of choc spot fungus and it doesn't look like the black dried tips that are on some of my broad beans plants.  The very tips are blackened not brown and it doesn't seem to spread over the leaves at all.

??

If it's only on the edges could it be frost damage?

Good grief this thread is nearly four years old.

Agree that it is probably frost damage but if you are concerned please post a photo of the leaves.

Could it be sooty mould? (can appear during or even after an aphid infestation as it feeds on the secretions from them.)

(Lots of pics on Google if you want to check it out.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

As Little Sweetpeas hasn't logged on for nearly 15 months, I fear you may not get an answer  :(
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
