Mildew Melons!!!
« on: May 15, 2006, 10:49 »
HI all! Spanish gardener here! I keep fighting the fight against mildew! My last two crops of peas suffered and had to be pulled before full harvest! I've notice a few white spots (smells like mildew) on my melons that are waiting to be planted out. Would you 1. carry on and try to fight the mildew or 2. sow some more seeds :( Can you combat mildew or is it a constant battle? Help please!!
PS tried organic shop bought anti mildew spray with the peas, also tried milk and nettle spray.
Happy Gardening

I heard that a liquor made by soaking garlic sprayed onto plants helps against fungus type disease so maybe worth a try. Garlic may be available in Spain :)

Quite surprised you have that problem as mildew usually thrives in damp conditions.

We get mildew (or what I take is meldew) on the tiny rose plants I have in tubs on the patio and window ledge (south facing so get full sun )  I have tried to rub it off with my fingers but it comes back!
(in Spain too, don´t fancy garlic smelling roses, cos I´m not that keen on garlic!)
