We have a very big freezer here just a little east of you viettaclark. It's called: "Outside" (on the plot)! 

My leeks are all sitting in the soil, same as last year and the year before. Whenever I need them I just hack at the ground, break through the frost and up they come.

Although you may need muscle to lift the things when there's a hard frost.... 

   I find once you've cracked the top few inches of soil it's often frost free further down - I plant my leeks deep!!

Oh no! There's a thaw on the horizon!
Looks like I'm going to lose my fruit! At least I could make masses of crabapple leather....that keeps well and can be given as pressies. And I might have to bottle the rest! Could've done without the extra hassle at this particular moment in time.(Stress, gritting of few remaining teeth and ripping out of few remaining hairs etc.)
