It states on our deeds we can't have poultry or livestock only domesticated animals. It seems stupid as my house boarders on to two farms one of which keeps chickens and ducks so they're only a foot away.

I was told by a friend whos parents are farmers that they knew of someone who got round this problem by having show quality hens which allowed them to argue they were technically pets. Has anyone else heard of similar stories such as this?

When it was discussed on here once before, it seemed like they were allowed to keep 'ornamental poultry', but not utility strains.  But depends on what they refer to as ornamental?  Silkies?  Polands?  Japanese Jokahamas?  Appenzellars???

but to us, even our hybrids are pretty birds, so its awkward to sort out I think.  You'd have to ask your local authority for their guidelines on the subject.

How well do you know those farmers? Would it be possible to rent a small plot from one of them for your birds?

who would know anyway? I doubt if a farmer would complain!
