Hoiked my belfast sink out of the ground and brought it home. Tomorrow's job is to get Horti Grit, Compost & Gravel to fill it up with :)

Had a look at all my squash and they are doing wonderfully. An American friend sent me some butternut squash seeds and his breeding is aiming for long thick necks and small seed cavities, they really are a picture. They have struggled in our climate but I do have one of the type described above and it does make me chuckle.

Well I wasgoing to put the overwintering onion sets into my little compost filled toilet roll cut-down mini pots but, after filling the small tubes with compost and watering the compost, I opened the box thst arrived last week to find a pot of plant food and a leaflet saying "to follow red onion sets 'red cross'"
Grrrr!

Forgot I ordered that on free p&p weekend as well as the onion sets! ::)

So nothing done today!

Harvested lots! Chatted to the new plot neighbours both besides and across from us.
cut down the sweetcorn plants that have had everything harvested and just left those that still have cobs on.

Harvesting, lots.  Weeded 2 raised beds.   Gave the leeks, the Boston squash, courgettes and patty pan squash a comfrey tea feed.   Cleared away some of the old leaves from the squashes and courgettes.

Said hello to some new plotholders who are clearing their plot.   First time in use for years.   No sign of the other new plotholder who has now had the plot for 2 weeks; not a good early sign.

To be fair, 2 weeks at this time of year might be because they are on holiday... I would be getting cross/worried after a month.

Yesterday it was dig, dig, dig, getting plot ready for next year. Also dug up some potato's. Seen Bill from the next plot who has been off work for 3 months with a bad back. A few months ago his plot was imaculate, now its a jungle again. His wife said she would be there today to start the big tidy up.

Dug over some soil - between the showers and harvested stuff ( see elsewhere)!
Collected and then delivered the surplus from plot holders to local food bank who are really amazed by the volume. Just hope people like runner beans!

Sowed a bag of marrowfat peas, leftover from growing peashoots in the winter, in two of the empty beds as green manure.
Stroked the butternuts.  Picked a punnet of tomatoes. Weeded.

Dug out and chucked away 2 rows of 'Flamenco' strawberries which hardly ever produced anything, and replaced with a main summer variety - cant remember which - but which gave a huge crop earlier in the year and now have more runners than I could possibly use. Hoping to be totally inundated with strawbs next summer but we think its not possible to have too many. Picked some rasps today including lovely Joan J (these are huge see photo). Bit of weeding. Picked more patty pans.

I tidied up a bit, harvested a bit, weeded a bit and planted out some strawberry runners while the plotfather made a start on a brick path across the 1/2 plot to the new greenhouse. Ooooh! happy days  :D

Watered the onion bed with garlicky water.
Planted out the baby cabbages.
Potted up the celery experiment and put them in the greenhouse.
Didn't water the toms as there has been no sun to dry anything up.
Dug out a celeriac that had bolted.

half of main crop potatoes dug up.
weeded and trimmed grass
tried to dig up path and found spade wouldnt go in soil because carpet under path. back tomorrow for another go!
