Slabs in run - silly concern
« on: February 24, 2011, 21:38 »
I am thinking of paving the bottom of the girls run and putting wood chip on top.......heres my silly concern.................. do they not NEED to be able to get to the ground to find any bugs?
Or.........is the layer of wood chips supposed to be very deep so one or two bugs may crawl in.

Im thinking of doing this as i have to have a fixed run, to trying to make it as hygienic as possible.

The girls do get out to play most days for a couple of hours.  I have also bought a cheap raised bed from Aldi this week i was goin to put in their run and fill with sand and compost (again slabs on the bottom)  for somewhere to dig around too.

So to be so blonde

My pens are on paving slabs with wood shavings on top...... its not essential that they find bugs etc (nice for them though).  I find that not having to worry about the foxes digging in far outweighs the lack of beetles for the chooks ;)
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!
