Err...Christmas taters?
« on: November 10, 2010, 15:00 »
There have been a couple of posts asking about winter potatoes recently, so I thought I'd go out and have a furtle in my bin as the tops have wilted. And this is what I found.....

These came from two plants but because there are loads of pots in the way I couldn't get down to the bottom of the bin. So I would say go for it! We will have salmon with new potatoes, baby carrots and frozen peas.

We'll give the dog nose a miss though....don't eat meat!

If you want to be happy for a short time - get drunk.

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

Fabby spuds!!

I have mine in a spud bag in the green house. The leaves are still nice n green....how do you know when they're ready?
The goal of life is not to arrive at the graveyard in a well preserved body, but instead to skid in sideways, totally worn out yelling "What a ride!".

When the tops die back they will not grow any more.

They tasted fantastic!

mine have been a disaster, I overwatered them and then they got horrendous white fly.  Pulled them all out at the weekend and in 12 big bags I have about six spuds (and its not even Christmas anyway!!)
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)

I was one of the people who posted about this too - I'll be lifting mine over the weekend, and I'll be quite happy if I get a couple of dinners out of it!  I'll know better for next year - it's all a learning process isn't it - that's what it's all about.

Cheers  :)

I'm not holding my breathe but I'm going to go and dig mine up this morning and see what the damage is.  I really didn't put too much thought into how and where I planted them but have learnt a big lesson.  Will let you know how successful (not) I've been. ;)
