Don't ask me how but I can tell which of you is which from your postings! I often shout,'Doodle you're on Mick's page' or vice versa.  Hopefully other people can tell the difference.

You should check out the local beekeeper's association - you'll find a link at http://www.britishbee.org.uk/ probably.

Speak to your local association they will be able to point you in the right direction and mentor you. It will be the only way to get cheep bees.  Do not try ebay as these could have disease and you could be transporting to a previous unaffected area.

Think you'll be lucky to get cheap bees anywhere. My mum started keeping them last year and nucs have almost doubled in price in just a year! They are getting harder to come by with all the problems with colony collapse etc and demand has gone up as more people are interested in keeping them.

Ruff is right that your local bee association is the best place to start.

I was wondering where you could get secondhand bee equipment from!! We are starting a bee club at school and we want to get the equipment as cheap as possible.  Obviously there is ebay, but I wondered if there were any other ideas from allotmenteers

Thanks

I always tell people to contact there local association this is a MUST in my book when considering bees.

Also your local association they may have something spare and will be able to give you assistance and insurance.

May I also suggest that you combine it with your wood work class and make a hive.

Thanks, we have the local beekeeping organisation on board with us, but they have no spare equipment. Also we are planning on making a hive, but would really like to get started asap. So we would make one hive whilst we have another one up and running straight away.

As for insurance, we need to look into that so thanks for the pointing that out.  :)

My the Blackburn and East Lancashire Beekeepers Association has insurance for 3 hives and liability as well included in the membership. You may be already covered.
