Won't be planting until October, but have a further query.

If it is generally regarded as not being a good idea to plant supermarket garlic, where to you get cloves for planting from?
Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

Thanks. In fact in the original text I wrote "are they next to the onion sets at the garden centre." But deleted this as it looked stooopid. Duh.

Dobies have quite a large variety in their latest catalogue, and you don't have to buy loads

Bought mine from wilko's about 3 years ago and have just kept a few cloves back for replanting each year.  Done the same with shallots for a good few years.  works ok for me and costs nothing.
got some really big garlic's this year.

Thanks BG. Just checked out the Dobies website. Good stuff. Spanish Roja sounds good.

Cheers.

I re-use until they run out of steam/get white rot.

If introducing new stock I get them from a (fairly) local hardware store (Selections, Leighton Buzzard, Beds. that also sells chicken food, homebrew equipment, etc.) who sell them loose by the Kg/pound, which works out much cheaper (half the price?) than polythene packs of 3 or 4 from garden centres/mail order.

A dying breed of shop, so I try and support it, as those that were closer have all gone out of business.

There's a great hardware/ironmongery store in Modbury, Devon, opposite the charity shop.
