Random weather and veg
« on: February 22, 2012, 20:25 »
Hi All,

This may seem a bit of a rookie question but my brassicas and Garlic aren't doing too good in the changing weather. One thing that seems to be doing ok is the pak choi! The soil is clay and I am based in Cardiff. Any advice would be greatly welcomed :)

In what way aren't they doing well?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

They are a bit stunted and have been attacked several times by evil slugs. Not sure if they will survive. They haven't increased in size since Dec, they had a brief spurt when we planted them in October but since then not much has happened. Should I be using some kind of feeder?

Sounds normal to me,  (apart from the slugs, but they might recover from that if the bulb is ok)
Garlic doesn't grow much in the winter months, it'll start romping again when the spring comes, and they won't fatten up until its approaching summer

TBH with the excpetion of purple srouting broccoli not much really does seems to actually grow during the winter -- all sort of in suspended animation tready to go in Spring  :D

If you can manage to get rid of the slugs, they will soon get a romping away with the warmer weather and longer daylight.  Mine have been sulking all winter too.  Its normal in the winter
