grafted plants
« on: March 01, 2012, 21:02 »
ok this may be a daft question but i have heard that grafted tomato plants do really well, my question is why have they found a way of grafting to a weed that seem to do much better than my veggies?
they come out earlier last longer and reappear if a minute scrap is left in the ground.

The tomato plants are grafted onto a very prolific tomato rootstock which produces about five times the root system of normal tomatos. This allows the uptake of enormous amounts of nutrients and water that the normal rootstock cannot provide.

I am trying to graft my own this year, (just an experiment) but I am not prepared to pay what the normal suppliers are charging.
You can purchase the seeds for rootstock tomatos from Moles seeds. There are two variety's, I am trying one called Aegis.

Have a look on youtube. There are quite a few vids on tomato grafting.

Hope this helps.  :)
