Spud Yield
« on: June 21, 2009, 21:06 »
I dug up half my Charlotte plants today! :) Now from six plants, I got about four and a half kg. I think I planted them too close together, and had assumed this would affect the number/weight of spuds they'd produce... Is this an average yield to be getting? Under? Over?

I'm not familiar with the variety to advise on yield, but yes, crowding really does affect all spud yields. Space future ones about 2 ft apart or a bit more.

I'm getting about 1.5kg per plant at the moment, from tubers that were planted 1ft apart. The yeild is increasing as the spuds are still growing but not for much longer - some of the leaves are starting to yellow.
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!
