The weather hasn't been as expected so things seem to be taking longer than you would expect. Perhaps try and leave them a little longer. :)

I live in west Cumbria...the weather has been exactly as expected  ;)

Now not quite true, I also live in west Cumbria, the weather has been better than expected really, hasn't it  :nowink:

what do you do when slugs have chomped through the main stem of the potato plant, (or some careless person has trodden on them as they walk past your plot) They are not a first early type, but main (king edwards)

remove any piece that is actually fully snapped off, other than that leave them to grow on.
If they're a bit trodden down but still green - they are still feeding the plant, so leave them alone ;)

Dug up a Charlotte yesterday and got enough egg sized spuds for a good meal. I had a furtle of the same plant last week and found a couple of small spuds. I put them in around the middle of March as far as I can remember so they had the advantage of the warm weather and plenty of rain.

Thank you for that, I'll have a look tonight and see, where I stand

Where has this word "furtle" come from? It sounds quite seedy, like an amalgam of "feel" and "furtive"
