 Went out this morning to let the chooks out and Percina was dead in the nesting box.  She had been laying soft eggs on and off for the last month.  Apart from that she was eating and drinking okay and last night she was free ranging with the other chooks quite happily.  I'm just worried that what ever she died off might be passed onto the other 3 chooks.  Does anyone have any idea what could have been wrong with her?  She was about a year old.

It could have been a heart attack, but without an autopsy we have no way of knowing. Sorry for your loss xx

So sorry  to hear about Percina    .   I agree with Joy here that there's no way of knowing why she died without an autopsy.  Hens are very good at hiding when they are not well.

When I lost Teeny hen last year (bless her) I took her for a post mortem and found that she'd had an internal bleed. To be honest, it helped put my mind at rest as it helped confirm that I'd not done anything wrong and there would have been nothing that could have been done for her.
