I'm getting desperate after reading about leek moth, blight, club root, and many more.  Has anyone had experience of using stuff like this?

It won't help against blight and clubroot - only flying menaces.  Milkman is a big fan of Viromesh , perhaps she'll offer some personal experience.

Now when they call it Viromesh I assumed that it had something to do with protecting from viruses.  Is that a false assumption / wishful thinking?

depends what you are planning to grow

it lasts well for a few years so its a good investment

i think its great stuff from seeing what other people have grown under it, perfect crops

ive seen some packaged up as viromesh, its a copyright dodge thing

buy it mail order and it becomes better value for money - i bought my viromesh from N. A. Kays (now something like kays discount thingymijig)  in 2004 expecting it to last 10 years, and so far so good.

view the purchase as a worthwhile investment, espec if you are trying to grow organically.

i've got it in two widths - 2m and 3.1m wide, the 3.1m is proving to be the most versatile.

i use it for keeping:-
leek moths out of leeks
carrot fly out of carrots and parsnips
pea moth maggots out of peas

i cover my sweetcorn with it on transplanting to keep the wind off until the plants start romping away.

i cover my overwinter broad beans with it, again to keep the worst of the wet winter winds off

i cover all my brassicas with on transplanting it to keep pigeons and cabbage whites at bay.

i should have used it to cover my squashes, pumpkins and courgettes on transplanting until established 'cause this year's harvest has been pants, hay ho but lesson learned...

it filters the wind so is less prone to blowing away than fleece and still lets the rain through.

i just found it so disheartening finally achieving a lovely looking crop of carrots and peas, only to find the carrots riddled with root fly tunnels and the peas riddled with maggots.

end of unofficial sales pitch...hmmm maybe I should ask to get some sort of commission...then I could start working part time and spend more time on lotty....

Milkman - that's really helpful information, it's a deal, I'm convinced.  So that's the flies dealt with, now I just need to protect from the other nasties.

I made a few hoops from metal caot hangers and placed the mesh over them and "tucked in " the edges under the soil
My carrots, clabrese and lettuces were great! Not a caterpillar or anything on them....shame the clabrese did the same as Richies and bolted!! Oh well!

I got mine from Allplas I think and I use water pipe to drape it over. My cabbages and chard are grand, unlike my turnips on the outside which the fleabeetles got. IT's tough.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
