I wondered if someone could give me some advice please?  I've recently planted sweetcorn seeds for the first time - used inner loo rolls. The seeds have germinated will and looked vigorous but several have collapsed where the stem and leaves meet. I've watered but don't want to over water. Does anyone know why this is happening, thanks.

They do this sometimes. I think it is over watering.

Okay, thanks for the info, I'd better slow up on the watering then!  One looks as if it is springing   back but the other has had it unfortunately.

Overwatering is a basic problem with many plants. What you're trying to do at this time of year is get a good root system. If you water too much, the plant has no reason to grow many roots, it gets enough water because its been provided. Better to underwater now so the plant sends out roots looking for water.

That's what's  happened to some of mine too.  I was just going to ask the same question this morning.
