Shallot Zebrune seedling problems
« on: March 28, 2018, 18:00 »
Hi folks,
I am growing these shallots from seed for the first time. They germinated well but after a few more days when the seedling stretches to the full length they have pretty much all fallen over. They are getting plenty of light and kept in a cool room in the house. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? Cheers from South Yorks

Snap!

Exactly the same issue with these shallots, maybe it's just a feature of the way they grow. I've put mine out in the greenhouse now and I'm sure they'll be fine.

Look familiar

Thanks for your reply.
Yes they look exactly the same.
Fingers crossed they “grow up”

I am growing Zebrune just now and mine are much shorter than those. I think your problem is lack of adequate light being a bit farther north. Once your days lengthen they will be better. I always say starting things of early in the north is a bit of a two way thing yes they are going but in reality there is just not enough light to get them growing naturally.

Thanks for your comments. I think I will start them again. Fingers crossed all will be better second time around.
