beans an apples
« on: January 03, 2010, 12:55 »
dug my bean trench yesterday and then put a load of wind blown apples in the bottom.
as I was driving away from the plot the thought struck me that the apples may affect the taste of the beans?????

the apples were not a bitter taste off the tree, but I have put quite a few in the trench.

an I worried over nowt??
dont permissum dandelions frendo vos down.

If it cant be pulled by hand,

If you put horse poo in the trench, would your beans taste of that?   I think not.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I think that a lot of slimy mushy apples is not the best medium for putting your roots into. I would have gone for something with a bit more fibre but they may have time to rot and dry out enough for the beans. We still have a few months to go before planting out.

..........or would you just get a cr*p crop??  :D
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

well seems that the apples havent affected the taste, but the plants themselves have been (yes I know) not much better than rubbish, they havent got above 5foot tall, not cropping bad but not gona get as many as we did when we grew em in planters in the back garden.

lesson learned me tinks.......
