Sad apples :-(
« on: August 17, 2012, 18:05 »
There are very few apples on our trees this year, one of them has none and another ONE lonely sad apple that doesn't look too good either. Anyone else have that problem? Is it the weather?
Gardening requires lots of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. :-)

yep im affraid alot of people are having problems with their fruit trees this year (not just apples), it was mainly due to the frosts at the start of the year  >:(, so your not alone  ;)

I had two on my new tree, then one fell off... :(

My apple trees are having one of the best years ever

Although, if it makes you feel any better, I think they've got some disease ...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

My apple trees are having one of the best years ever

I wouldn't say the best year ever, but I had the biggest surprise when I ventured down to the bottom of my garden to check on the Discovery apples which are usually ready about mid August and my jaw dropped with surprise to find it full of apples!  I have 8 other established apple trees which are well down this year, no pears and no plum  :(  I can only think that the blossom on this tree opened at just the right moment.  However, the first ripened apple I picked was not the sweetest.

All my fruit trees have been a disaster this year. No apricots, frost got the blossoms, no pears frost again I think, very few apples, some are small and deformed looking with black marks, got a few peaches but not sure if they will ripen. The leaves on my cherry tree were turning yellow and dropping off, it's looking a bit healthier since I sprayed.
Low harvest on all soft fruit also.
Never mind, there is always next year to look forward to. Must invest in some fleece though!

Having only put my fruit trees in last autumn and wondering if I would be able to remove the fruit the first year I have not had that dilema, since no fruit but at least the plants look like they have got their roots down and are putting on new growth - so next year...

Thanks everyone, I don't feel so alone now! ;-) Last year we had tons of apples, one very big tree (this one is doing quite ok this year), 5 smaller ones that are all not so well off, especially the 2 that are positioned north of the house, they have none!
I saw some other posts about this issue too, I hope next year will be better again!
Lacewing, do you grow apricots in a polytunnel or outside?
