I think the eggs under my broody have failed :-(
« on: May 15, 2009, 10:59 »
I candled them last night.  They've been under for 8 days.  Out of the 6, 4 didn't look good.  2 had the big big ring that they say is bacteria or something. 2 had just yokes and no veins.  1 might have had something, not sure, then 1 egg is so dark I can't see a thing!

What shall I do?  Get some more eggs?  Is that fair to her?  (I know mocoffey has asked the same question) or just sit it out and remove the 4 that look dodgy.

If she has only been sitting for 8 days you could try again, but would have to be quite soon. Whether to let her sit and continue to incubate the existing clutch is a difficult one maybe have a look in another couple of days to be sure. There is an exciting rare egg breed auction at Salisbury though tommorrow! :D

Oh Fifirtrix,
How sad if all the eggs are duds.  Poor Mummy hen, too.

yes I looked at the catalogue but now my kids are refusing point blank to go  >:( :tongue2:

I'm trying to persuade myself that I don't need anymore and will just hope that broody isn't too sad if nothing happens.  Will chuck the duds too.   :(
