Cold snap at the weekend cover up !
« on: March 27, 2009, 10:13 »
www.metcheck.com  are forecasting a cold snap over the weekend lows of - 4oc on Sunday evening. So if you have spuds etc make sure they are covered up again in the greenhouse make sure you have heat and double check it's working. If the greenhouse is too big to heat it all then make a tent using cheap plastic dust sheets double thickness will help insulate and help beat the cold.  ;)

Mine have just had 6" of 1/2 rotted leaves dumped on them that should do the trick

Now there's a thought. I've got a pile of the same out front. Would they rob nitrogen from the soil ? Or do you add some N later ?

I'm not too bothered about the nitrogen robbery as spud's probably don't need a huge amount of it anyway, if you look at the NPK values for potato fertilizer it's higher in phosphurous and potassium http://www.nvsuk.org.uk/garden_equipment/pot-tray-basket/product.php?pr=1082     :) well thats my angle on it

Could always chuck some growmore in the mulch. I'll get onto it right away. I wanted to shift the leaves anyway. Thansk Rich.

Thanks Rich. Just what we want to hear when we're giving the motorhome it's first outing of the year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Does anyone have any tips for covering up if you dont have any fleece?

What else can be used to cover small shoots?
We lived for days on nothing but food and water.

A pile of straw covered with plastic ?
An old duvet ?
Some sacking maybe ?
