Just a quick and maybe silly question... what exactly are the benefits of fish blood and bone and is there anything it should not be used with?

It's the organic alternative to Growmore, so better for the soil in the long run.
You can use it for anything.

The downside is......if you have foxes on site, they can find it attractive and dig to find buried treasure

Yes it is. You may find that more hungry crops will appreciate some chicken manure pellets as well.

Use as a scattered trace element benifit on the ground and rake in before planting.  Don't let it get onto foliage, it is slow release so it may be some while before you see the benifits (have I spelt that word correctly)?

can you Dilute the powder / granules ,, so you can water it in ??

Bfb tends to be whole particles which are not easily soluble, slow release by bacteria in the soil are one of the reasons for using it instead of liquid feed.

For carrots & parsnips it only goes on in the previous Autumn, even though it is slow release, as I worry they might fork otherwise.

Carrot and parsnip roots fork when they hit an obstacle such as a stone or hard lump of compost and not because of a bit of fertilizer. I always use BFB in the potting mix I make up for root crops and never have them forking.

I sowed spinach today and topped the seeds with compost mixed with FBB - it doesn't half smell bad after you water them in!
