We dug up and transplanted some lemon balm, we wanted to move it to our herb boarder but it doesn't look to healthy. does anyone know anything about lemon balm? its in a open sunny position. maybe its getting scortched or being blown about to much?

Did you take a big enough rootball when you moved it, to minimise root damage?

Have you been really watering it well - particularly if it's a windy spot?  All plants need loads of water for a longer than you'd think after transplanting.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

If the plant was too big to move you might find it useful to cut it back so surviving roots have a chance to keep up with plant demands. It will shoot back up once it has been rested. If it is looking sick then you have little to lose.

Yeah, we dug up the earth around the root ball so as not to damage it.

It did goes floppy a few times but then perked up after watering so maybe that has damaged it a wee bit. It was inbetween the fruit bushes but now sits isolated.

I dug up my lemon balm to move it & it just died so maybe they resent moving.  I bought a new one for about £1.50 & they grow like a weed once they're in so...... 8)

Maybe I have a different variety but I have found my lemon balm to be virtually indestructable. It self seeds all over the place and doesn't seem to mind being disturbed.

It does make doing the weeding a bit nicer than normal though due to the lovely smell.

Older plants get woody in the centre and don't move well.
Its easy to root from short basal cuttings and usually seeds itself freely so you should be able to cadge some from anyone else who has it.
Look out for the golden variegated form, makes a bright show in spring and again in summer if cut back - comes equally well from cuttings
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

iv'e never had any probs with it,iv'e a 30ft border of it seperating 2 parts of the plot.it's in full sun and as tough as old boots.
i actually spayed 20 ft off with roundup last year and had to give it another hit 6 weeks later.
