Regarding the changes in children's behaviour touched on regarding scrumping, OH and I find it particularly annoying that umpteen kids will knock on your door wanting things at halloween and yet it has been years since we last had the squawk of childish voices singing carols at the door.  Claims that it is to do with risk to safety won't wash as the same kids will happily troop round on the eve of All Saints day for their teeth-rotting 'protection racket' sweeties.

Perhaps it is all some socialist plot to discourage the concept of doing the work of singing to earn reward instead of simply demanding it as some sort of right.
