Just bought and assembled an ark for my 3 chooks (collecting soon) The galvanised wire seems pretty stout, but would not probably stop a rat from knawing through. I would like to use some stronger stuff at least around the bottom half and then skirt it out a little around the outside. Any suggestions as to where I could purchase this? Mike.

Hi Mike. You can buy welded mesh (19g, 1mm) from DIY stores, hardware stores, ebay, other online shops.
If you search for "welded wire mesh" or a variation on that, you'll be inundated with results. But beware of chicken wire/hex mesh because it's normally too thin, like you presumably already have.

I've recently converted my shed and put a run on it. I found the mesh to very expensive.

I ended up blagging some heavy duty fencing mesh from a railway fence that was being replaced, it was either my chicken run or the skip. The workies where happy to see it go as it saved them from moving it, and I got free heavy duty mesh. So that was a result!!!
