Broody Hen
« on: April 19, 2009, 13:57 »
I think one of my hens has gone broody. She keeps sitting in the nesting box and doesn't want to come out.
Other than that she does not seem unwell.
I take away any eggs that are laid straight after they lay them.
I'm a bit worried she will dehydrate and I on't know what's best to do.  :(
I'd be grateful for any advice please.
Also there really isn't any room to put food and water near the nesting box and the others are having trouble getting in to lay as I only have 3 hens and 1 box.

Hi I built a cage when one of mine went broody lift it of the ground using bricks and make sure she has food and water, the idea is to get lots of cool air to her bottom keep her in it for a few days. it worked for me

Get her out of the nestbox.  Block up the nestbox and leave it for a 3ish days she will soon get the message.

hi, whenever one of my ladies is broody, i keep taking them out of the nest box and putting them with the others.  I`ve found the broodiness passes a lot faster than it use to do, a week or so, instead of several weeks.  xx
someone keeps stealing time when i`m not looking.
