Blackcurrant and raspberry cuttings
« on: March 16, 2013, 13:50 »
I took some cuttings in Novemeber put then in 6inch pots as my garden soil is soild chalk and I hadnt got my plot then. The cuttings are now budding and look healthy. I've lifted a few and they have no roots. Do I need to leave them in pots until autumn? Will they be ok in these pots? should I feed them?

Many thanks

Personally, I would leave them in the pots until you do see signs of roots. By transplanting them now you might damage any roots that are just starting but hard to see. The budding is a good sign and soon you should be able to move them.

I think they will bud no matter what ... simply from the sap and energy stored in the cuttings.

However, as they start to grow now in spring they will realise they don't have roote and start to grow some. Leave them in pots till autumn. By then they will be dead or have a good rootball, then you can pot them on.

Hope this helps.
