ROCK DUST
« on: November 26, 2008, 17:24 »
Has anyone tried seer rockdust, what are folks opinions on it please.

I have tried it but have only grown veg with it and not without so I cant really say if I would have done better with or without it.  Sorry if this has already been discussed earlier. :)

I have looked up Seer Rockdust website. Looks like yet another 'muck and magic' product aimed at us organic growers.

It may well be good. It could be basically rock phosphate, but that is just a guess.

Why do they not give the chemical analyis if it contains all the nutrients they claim?

Thanks for reply Salmo, had hoped more people might have heard of it or tried it.

Never mind - I suppose most people will think that it is some new fangled gimmick and too expensive to try.  I just thought that crops grown on volcanic slopes were reputed to be good.  :)

Munchkin -

I doubt that a "mainstream" DIY store will stock this.

You must have been delving well into the archives as this thread was originally posted nearly two years ago and the original poster has not visited in the last 15 months. That speaks volumes in it's silence.

Salmo's post is worthy of heeding.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Looked at their website.

They list local stockists only.

I'll stick to horse poo.

You might get some funny looks DD  (especially if you forget to wash off the horse-poo first!)  ::)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Got my little brain working here.  Just a thought, but if you could somehow introduce rock dust into the horse's diet, you could have a dynamite product there

Just got to figure out how and next year I could be a millionaire  :D  ;)

Not used it myself but am always open to new ideas to improve the fertility of my excessively free-draining sandy soil.

Looks like rock dusts in general can be useful source of trace elements, but are far from being a complete fertiliser.

One can only guess at what the Seer product contains as they don't give an analysis on their website. and the research page "Soil Remineralisation Research at the SEER Centre" is surely a joke!

I shan't be buying any!  :nowink:

Nope you're right, I had no luck at bnq today. The man who works there looked at me like...'huuh rock dust?' lol. I settled with organic compost and organic soil improver. That oughta do it. Oh and btw I typed 'rock dust' into the search box as I wondered if there was already a thread on it and tada!

http://www.seercentre.org.uk/research/SoilReminSeer.htm

    Definitly a joke  - not a test of the rockdust at all as it was added to all treatments including the control  ::)  Trial started in 2003 and no results data published on their website.

GCSE science pupils could work out a fairer and speediers trial than that !
